John Stankey gave another investor webcast today and this is what he had to say about the state of u-verse.
U-verse penetration in markets open more than 12 months have 13.4% penetration. Progress is being made on all fronts with U-verse. Churn is down and ahead of their targets. Install and repair time is down. Peaking at over 12,000 installs a week now. The ramp speed is on par with their initial DSL rollout. Trouble reports have been cut in 1/2. Arpus are increasing.
FI they manage to average 12,000 installs a week that means they will add 150k new subs this quater, which would bring their total to almost 400,000.
U-verse is getting 60% of its customers from cable and 50% were not ATT broadband customers before.
WHDVR is coming 2H08, but he said midywar, so it sounds like we will be seeing it soon. But the really good news is that this will be coming with 2HD/2SD(in 2Q-3Q). The DVR will allow you up to 7 streams, with 2HD/1SD coming from it. All of this will be provided on the current profile. The 25/2 profile will support the 2HD/2SD/10meg internet and 2voip lines. HD bitrate will continue to drop another meg over the next year. This would put HD at 5.5meg, assuming they did make the drop to 6.5meg.
The 25/2 profile currently has a reach of about 3000 feet. Pair bonding will be introduced in Q4 and is expected to produce speeds in the mid 40s or extend service to customers out past 3000 feet.
