I don't know how we missed this one, but Light Reading recently announced their picks for the 2006 Leading Lights, and our favorite new IPTV service won the award for Best New Service. According to the article, judges liked U-verse because it "effectively combines all the links in the video tech chaing: physical network, compression, software, set-top boxes, and content." That sure does make our, "I get even more channels and still pay less than I did for Time Warner" not sound quite as eliquoent as we thought. |

Several U-verse customers received letters this past week offering them 2 free tickets to one of two upcoming San Antonio Spurs games. Unfortunately, we didn't get the letter here at UverseUsers headquarters, but one of the more fortunate ones was kind enough to send us a copy of theirs. The letter mentions several updates coming soon including more channels (like CNN International and SiTV), high definition, and a larger DVR. Updates mentioned for 2007 are the Web Remote Access that we reported on previously, on-screen YellowPages, Yahoo! Photo integration, games, and U-verse Voice with on-screen caller ID.
To see the letter for yourself, continue reading. |

Last week we reported on a slip-up by the U-verse web team that revealed details of U-verse Voice service and said that it was "Coming Soon". We have since received word from an insider that the announcement was definitely premature, and the voice service will not be available until next year. But if you are looking for some good U-verse news don't despair, because today we've got an even better story for you.
Late last night, the UverseUsers team stumbled across the unannounced (and currently unfinished) AT&T Yahoo Web Remote. This service promises to let you control your DVR from any web-enabled computer. You can browse the guide, review your recorded shows and scheduled recordings, and add new shows to be recorded. Continue reading for pictures of the Web Remote in action as well as the first official pictures of the upcoming Motorola set top boxes and the new remote control that will come with them. |

AT&T has added a link to U-verse Central to their customers' Yahoo page. The site allows customers to change their profile, create sub-accounts, and eventually will allow them to pay their bill online. There are also system announcements available on the page, and that is the subject of this story.
We don't know whether this information was intentionally published or not, but according to an announcement at U-verse Central, AT&T U-verse Voice is coming soon. Following are the features that were noted in the announcement:
- You will continue to use your current phones
- Integrated Caller ID appears on your TV screen
- U-verse Messaging lets you get all of your home phone and Cingular Wireless voicemail in one place by PC or phone
It has been common knowledge that AT&T would eventually be launching VOIP, but until now few details were available. Whether the voice service will launch alongside the nationwide rollout before the end of the year remains to be seen. We will continue to dig for more information, and as always, we will share it with you as soon as we find it. |

Sanford Nowlin over at the Express News has done a fair write up on the initial U-verse experience. He found several early adopters to interview and covers their results. It mirrors what we have seen here in our forums. There have been problems, he documents one instance that was severe enough to cause cancelation of service. Others are pleased with the service and any problems they have had were resolved. It is probably a good thing that he got the customer interviews done before the recent upgrade was pushed, as he probably would have found more irritated customers. The problems with the upgrade do appear to be mostly gone at this point. .
Sanford also does the AT&T blog for the Express News. |

As we reported earlier, AT&T and Microsoft have been working hard to release an update to the software that powers U-verse. Users were alerted by snail mail that the upgrades would be occurring on the night of October 4th. Soon after the letter, an email went out saying that the date for the update had been pushed back one day to October 5th. However, October 5th came and went with no update.
UverseUsers.com has now received word from a source familiar with U-verse that the updates were pushed back because AT&T decided to include more updates in the scheduled upgrade. Following the initially planned update users would not have seen any immediate improvements, but now AT&T is going to include some features that users have been waiting for since the initial rollout of U-verse. Upgrades will begin tonight and continue for the next 24-48 hours. When a user's set top box receives the upgrade, all previous recorded programs will be lost and any scheduled recordings will have to be re-scheduled.
The new features will be a welcome update to current U-verse subscribers. Although our previous set top box hack will be disabled and only one DVR will be allowed per household, the Tatung box will now be able to record up to 4 concurrent streams.
Another update that will be released is the new skin for the set top box interface. While we do not have a lot of information at this point about what that will look like, we do know that it will be more refined and offer more transparent menus.
As always, we will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

AT&T sent out a letter this afternoon reminding users of the pending system update that will delete all recordings from their DVRs and cancel any scheduled recordings. This update had been scheduled for the night of October 4th, but the email states that this date has been changed to the evening of October 5th. Make sure that you set your alarm a little early on Friday so you can get up and reprogram your DVR to get all of those old Seinfeld reruns. I guess I will have to make sure I watch The Office on Thursday night before I go to bed, since by the time I wake up on Friday my DVR should be empty. |
