Scott Greczkowski has posted an in-depth review of U-verse over at satelliteguys.com. His conclusion is sort of a mixed bag, not giving a thumbs up or thumbs down, but instead a "thumbs in the middle". He likes the SD picture quality as well as being able to record up to 4 channels at once on one DVR, but has gripes about the HD picture quality and service reliability. While we don't agree with Scott's conclusion that U-verse is still a beta product that AT&T should not be charging for, all in all it is a fair review with a good number of screenshots. |

AT&T announced a carriage deal Thursday with New England Sports Network, which will allow the telco to provide NESN’s sports programming to U-verse TV subscribers in New Haven and Hartford, Conn.
In those markets, U-verse TV will carry NESN’s fare, including all Boston Red Sox Major League Baseball and Boston Bruins National Hockey League game telecasts. Financial and other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“We are proud to offer NESN’s compelling sports programming to U-verse TV subscribers in New Haven and Hartford,” AT&T head of programming Dan York said in a prepared statement. “Red Sox and Bruins fans can have ultimate access to their favorite teams with AT&T U-verse TV.”

Telephony Online is reporting that A&TT's CFO Rick Lindner said that they are currently pleased with bandwidth being delivered by VDSL and FTTN. He also stated that in the 2nd half of 2007 that the available bandwidth will increase 60-70%. Doing that math, a 65% increase on a 25meg line would be 16 megs. This would give the VDSL lines a sync rate of 41megs. That is enough for 3HD and 1 SD streams and 8meg internet connection. If this is all on one pair, this will be a significant increase in U-verse service capability. |

ATT opened up 4 more markets today in Indiana. These markets include Muncie, Indianapolis I Bloomington and Anderson. This is short of the 15-20 markets they were promising at the beginning of the year and short of the 15 markets they claiming up till a few weeks ago. We should expect to see 4 more market in January since they only recently bumped their expectations down to 11. Hopefully ATT will aggressively expand service in 2007..

Xchange Online is reporting that U-verse will be available in 11 cities by the end of year. This can only mean that next week is going to be a busy week for U-verse announcements. This also means that AT&T fell short of its original plan to be in 15-20 markets by this time. So be ready to check for availability so you can get installation scheduled for the new year. They are also reporting that new applications on U-verse will be available in the first quarter of next year. |

AT&T has announced U-verse availability in limited areas across the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara metropolitan statistical area (MSA), including parts of the cities of Cupertino and Saratoga. Quick somebody check Steve Job's address in Cupertino.
Also, as we covered in recent reports, U-verse is now officially available in limited areas across the San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont metropolitan statistical area (MSA), including parts of the cities of San Ramon and Danville.
Additional cities should be announced over the next couple of days, so stay tuned to UverseUsers for more. |

UverseUsers has confirmed that AT&T has sent out an email to employees in the Indianapolis, IN area inviting them to call and sign up for U-verse. This approach seems to match the San Antonio rollout, where employees were offered the service first, with a more general release following soon after. If you live in Indy, check your availability now and let us know if your address is green.
Indianapolis joins Milwaukee, San Ramon, Houston, and San Antonio to become the 5th city where U-verse is available. In order to hit their goal of 15 cities by the end of the year AT&T needs to launch in one city per day between now and January 1st. It sounds to us like some AT&T employees aren't going to be getting much of a Christmas holiday!
Note: All of you readers in Indianapolis now have your own forum in our forums. Be sure to keep us all updated as to how things are going with the rollout. |

Ars Technica has a very detailed (and VERY long) article discussing some of the problems AT&T has run into deploying its new fiber network in several communities across the country. AT&T is currently involved in lawsuits with seven different cities that have attempted to require AT&T to sign franchise agreements before upgrading their network. These agreements would require AT&T to provide their U-verse product in all areas of a city. While cable companies have signed similar agreements, AT&T argues that such requirements would be too costly and prevent them from being able to offer the service to anyone. With only two markets officially U-verse-enabled and two weeks left in the year, AT&T is standing by their promise to deliver their flagship product to 15 markets by the end of the year. According to reports we have received, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and San Ramon, California should be turned up within a matter of days. One user at BroadBandReports.com has even received a door-hanger from AT&T announcing a launch party for tomorrow.
If AT&T is going to hit 11 additional markets within 15 days, we anticipate more launches this week as well. As soon as we have any information about the order those will take place in, we will let you know. Until then, feel free to make your best guess by looking at our UverseUsers Unofficial Coverage Map. |
