AT&T announced today the ability for AT&T U-verse customers to schedule and manage their U-verse TV recordings from their AT&T (formerly Cingular) wireless phones and devices. With this innovative new feature AT&T U-verse TV and Internet customers can use any compatible AT&T wireless phone or handset to search U-verse TV program listings, schedule program or series recordings, and manage or delete stored DVR content. Something worth noting here is that although this feature is currently only available to AT&T wireless customers, AT&T plans to make the feature available to customers of other wireless providers in the near future.

Is it being reported that the U-verse subscriber base has passed 10,000. This is more than triple than the total at the end of last year. Seeking Alpha is also reporting that U-verse is adding over 1000 subscribers a week a now. This means that when ATT reports for QTR1 of this year at the end of April, they will probably have around 15,000 subscribers by then.
Seeking Alpha is reporting that ATT is achieving 25 meg at 5000 feet with pair bonding and that this should become available in the first part of 2008. They also state that SD is running at 1.8Mb/s and HD is at 8.5Mb/s and they anticipate this to drop to 6.5Mb/s. |

TelephonyOnline.com quotes Michael Grasso, assistant vice president of consumer marketing for AT&T U-verse, as saying, "We have only one HD stream to the home today but by the end of the year, we will have multiple HD streams." This confirms what we have been hearing here at UverseUsers.com, but it is always good to get official confirmation from AT&T. Whether pair bonding will be needed to offer multiple HD streams to some users remains to be seen, but improved compression technology should allow multiple HD streams to a good number of existing customers within their current bandwidth limitations. 2007 looks like it will be a good year for US customers interested in IPTV solutions like U-verse. |

Microsoft seems to be pushing the updates out a bit faster now for their Microsoft TV IPTV Edition platform that AT&T's U-verse is run on. AT&T recently began pushing out version 3970. Word is that it contains mostly bug fixes, but we will give a full review once we have had a chance to use it thoroughly. Here's to hoping that it fixes the slow DVR responsiveness! |
