U-voice will be rolled out to the 70 municipalities in Connecticut over the next 45 days. This makes the 2nd market for U-voice and hopefully it will spread quickly to other markets.

Smart DSL will start sampling chips in late 2008 according to Alcatel. If ATT adopts this technology it will be another boost of bandwidth for us. By actively managing the crosstalk in a binder(24 pairs), bandwidth can be increased by as much as 30% and up to 20% more lines can be made usable.

As our regular readers have probably noticed, we have been experiencing some server issues for the last few weeks. The most recent issue began yesterday and was not remedied until this afternoon. In order to continue providing the best experience possible for our users, I am exploring other hosting options and considering making the move to a new host.
The users are what make UverseUsers.com the best and largest U-verse community on the net, and because of that I am committed to doing whatever it takes to get things running smoothly again. In the meantime, let me apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience while we continue to get things ironed out. We should be running on all engines again soon.

U-verse is now available in North East Illinois(Chicago Suburbs). This makes the 42nd market for ATT to en enter. They are launching with u-ber, but without the new max tier and u-voice. I suspect both of those will show up shortly.
Service will be available in parts of more than 175 local communities, including Bellwood, Buffalo Grove, Crystal Lake, Dolton, Elmhurst, Harvey, Hoffman Estates, Melrose Park, Oak Lawn, Orland Park, River Grove, St. Charles, Waukegan and others. Service areas will be expanded on a ongoing basis.

ATT reported its QTR 4 2007 numbers and things continue to look positive for U-verse. ATT added 105,000 new subs that qtr, which brings them to a total 231,000. For comparison verizon fios had 207,000 subs a year after leaving its test market in Keller , so the ramp is going well. This number also makes them the 16th largest cable operator and rising fast. They had peak install of 12,000 in one week, but the average for the QTR was still 8,000 a week.
ATT plans to end 2008 doing 40,000 installs a week and have over a million subs by then. To do this they are going to have expand current markets and get the major Bell South markets open for business as well. If they open a couple of major markets every month, like they did this year they should have little trouble reaching that rate by the end of the year. Right now they are in 41 markets and it looks like Chicago will go live tomorrow.
There has been much discussion about churn and it appears to not be a significant problem. U-verse has a churn rate that is similar to what they see with broadband and is expected to fall below 2%.
Q4 summary.

The new Max Tier will go live next month and it will be the fastest speed available in this market. This new speed tier will cost $55/month. For those wanting more speed, the wait is almost over. It will be interesting to see what the response from the local cable company will be as they advertise having the fastest speed in town.

The U-verse voice website is now available. It $30 for 1000 minutes and .07 after that and $40 unlimited including Canada. This is not exactly a hot deal in the voip market given there are lots of voip deals for $25/month. However those are going to lack the wireless and tv integration, battery backup and QOS that U-verse will be able to provide with its service. This will probably be somewhat less expensive than my current unlimited pots line.

WHDVR was orignally one of the selling points given to me when I signed up in May 2006. This feature was eventually pushed back to Q3 2008. However today at CES, Dan York a senior programming executive with AT&T, stated that WHDVR could be available within a few weeks. Hopefully this is correct as this a feature that is very late and very wanted by many using U-verse.
According to York, the needed software has already been deployed and just needs to be turned on. With any luck this means that is already undergoing field testing and that the testing is going well. If not, I guess I can another quarter or two.

DSL
Elite is taking about 20% share in the Q307. Express and Pro taking about 40% each, according their graph without numbers. Elite is gaining share. 10meg product on the way for 2008. Gaining broadband market share, up 4 points over Q306 last year. Cable now only has a 1 point lead in broadband market share.
Video
AT&T has a 1% revenue share in the market, but it is a $35B opportunity. Ending Q407 doing more than 10k installs a week and that should put the u-verse subscriber total around 225k by year end. Planning for an install rate of 40k/week by end of year 2008. Will have around 1 million customers by that time. WHDVR still is still scheduled for 2H 08, media sharing Q108 and 2HD sometime middle of 08. Experience techs are doing installs in 5.2 hours, new techs requiring 6.4 hours. Will cover about 30M units by 2010, which will be 50% of residentual and 33% of commercial in 22 states.
For 2HD+2SD+10MB will require a single pair for 80% of footprint.
For 4HD+10MB will cover more than 80% of the footprint with pair bonding(not including BellSouth). This will require 37meg.
Market Share
Market penetration 5.1% after 3 months and 11.4% after 12 months.
