connect an external hard drive?

I currently have two DirecTV 20-700 HD DVR's. I have an external 750 GB hard drive attached to the receiver in my family room (my main viewing area).
As a result, I have the ability to record up to 50 hours of mpeg4 HD programming and 200 hrs of SD programming. As I understand, the U-verse receiver's hard drive has the capacity to record on 133 hours of SD recording and up to 37 hours HD recording.
Does the U-verse receiver have the ability to add an external hard drive? I have seen information on this site regarding hacking the receiver to replace the installed hard drive with a larger drive....
Do I have any other options to increase my recording capabilities?

I do not think you do. Although the STB does have a USB port, last I checked is was not yet available to use.
I THINK you can add storage to your network via Ethernet based storage but I am not sure about saving a recording to it.

At this point the USB port has no use (besides charging XBox 360 controllers, etc.). Some users were able to change out the hard drive in the DVR, but you can get into trouble if AT&T finds out.

does anyone out there know if there is a plan to enable the USB port, or to add more recording capacity...otherwise, the limited recording capacity is a deal killer.....
