Turned on the Tonight Show this evening and the broadcast was being presented in 4:3 format.

Unfortunately, did not pay attention to Channel 4 (Detroit) prior to Leno - but KNOW that the Tonight Show has been broadcast in HD in the past.

Anyone else notice this glitch?

Ideas  about what happened / is happening??

Election held all of our attention yesterday - and WDIV was clearly broadcast in HD (on channel 1004, of course).

Therefore conclude that there must have been a problem with Jay Leno Monday evening...

I was watching a Lions game a few weeks ago and it kept going back to SD from HD.  I don't think it was anything Uverse was doing, just something wrong at FOX.

I'm watching Jay Leno right now and it's not in HD on channel 1004 (black bars on the sides).  It's been HD in the past so I'm not sure what the deal is....

Yep: On Friday evening we had 4:3 Jay Leno - at least know we weren't Imagining it the other night!

And have also seen him in HD in past....  Is this not his last year (or less?) on the show?  Perhaps they are trying to encourage Jay to leave early!

Anytime channel 4 does not air a certain program (such as Leno or Conan) at the exact times it airs on the network, it will not air in HD. On Fridays, WDIV airs a high school football highlights program after it's news that goes a few minutes over. Then they air the rest of their programming slightly delayed. Well, WDIV does not yet have (amazingly) the ability to record it's network programming in HD. Therefore they cannot play it back in HD.

Why wait every 8 minutes to see the stupid Local On The 8's. When you can just go to your computer or download an application and see the weather in less than 8 minutes.

One thing that I have noticed and that you must be careful with when using the UVERSE receivers is that sometimes, and I have no idea why, the receiver switches out of HD and into 4:3 mode. It has done that quite a few times but only after having turned the TV off and later returning to watch TV. I will turn the TV on and notice that HD doesn't look so HD, so I have to go into MENU, Options, System Settings, Aspect Ratio, and select 720p or 1080i and re-save the settings. Other than that, Channel 4 is one of the better HD local channels. I know HGTV and A&E does a lot of that 4:3 broadcasting in Widescreen, where you can clearly tell that the picture is not in HD format. ANyway, I would suggest that you make sure your receiver is still in the proper format for your TV.

That would seem an easy thing to check: could you not simply tune in another "HD" channel (or two...) & see if it is, Indeed, in HD... ??
