Maybe woodgrained X-Boxes was an old Ameritech thing. Any Ohio, Indiana, or Michigan people want to chime in if your X-Boxes are woodgrained? WI and IL have them (2 out of 5 of the old Ameritech -- Ameritech seems like such a long time ago...)

And I feel better about Green VRADs, if they are also up in CheeseHeadLand...

Oh yeah... We got the woodgrain going in SE Michigan.  As a kid growing up, we had a wood grain sided Buick Electra station wagon.  Talking like '84.  Maybe these came about at the same time.  Smiley

That makes 3 out of 5 of the old Ameritech... Still waiting on whether ya'll Hoosiers and Buckeyes have woodgrain phone X-Boxes.

And going the other way, any other parts of the country have the woodgrain paneled X-Boxes, aside from the Great Lakes Region/Former Ameritech area?

CA Has them too! though they are Quite a bit faded now. as for the green Vrads and X-boxes we have those too. a good mix of Tan and Green ones. I was told by engineering that the paint scheme was based on City permits specs and codes. Hence one city has the all tan and next town over has the green only.

have you guys started to get the new X-boxes from Tyco yet? instead of the 1/4 turn style binding posts they have the Icky Pic filled Posts that Flip down! we are starting to get them out here in conjunction with same style Binding posts but in a 25 pair terminal Application for UG/Sidewalk Box Use.

The only other kind of X-Box I have been at other than the usual 1/4 turn ones are the ones that need 24 gauge wire and you have to "punch down" the wires with a special funky punch-down tool. The blocks inside are 25 pair blocks. Not sure I am painting a totally clear picture...

I prefer the regular 1/4 turn X-Boxes

you have to watch when you put conductors in the flip downs. The wire fells like it seats but I think it catches on the connection pins. You find all kinds of odd things when you do a 100+ item adsl throw in one day. You don't have time for redos when you test the item.

Ohio here and I haven't seen any of the wood grained boxes either.

Your theory on the color choices could be legit.

In an art class in school, we were told green is a relaxing, cool, color (light green tho) and I had to piss off the teacher by asking, then why did they paint the walls in the school that color? Are they trying to put us to sleep? Cheesy

I think I have seen the green boxes, but most of the VRADS around here are tan.

Ohio, Columbus, Here. Most of the woodgrain xboxes are from the early ameritech days. anything pre-ameritech, original ohio bell is more a greyish or black color here, thats assuming u see many of them around. There are a few near my house that are just a pole with a "bell" looking cap that served what used to be old farmland, i'll try and rember to take a pic. Outherwise Faded green is what u'll find, unless it was built out in the SBC Days for an xbox. Reciently at&t has been replacing, swaping out the black splice cases on the aireal tuff to a shiny metal splice case near by vrads that the xbox gets fed from ariel cable.

by shiny Metal I hope your not referring to A Cast Iron Case that some asshole used on an Aerial Splice! those are a pain in the ass to open when on the Ground!
and god forbid you get stuck having to open one while on your Hooks! hahaha Sad

The Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area still has a fair number of woodgrain/green crossboxes. Though the crossbox for where I live was replaced at the same time the VRAD was installed.

I asked this question on the Ohio board also, but maybe this thread may get it answered quicker. Why are the large tan boxes in rural Verizon territories (north of Columbus OH) and in rural Sprint/Embarq territories (near Marysville, northwest of Columbus)? Do they use the boxes to bring DSL to remote areas, or is something else going on here? They are the same boxes AT&T has in Columbus, but I haven't heard of Embarq or Verizon offering anything beyond DSL in these areas...

TYCO DATA TERM
those are the new "hub snap style" bp's but there not hub snap. thank god. TYCO has been pretty good at meeting our needs. i guess 3M doesnt make "warts" that are over 400pr so they go with TYCO.
also those have the nice tight twist on them, it seems everything we are putting now is TYCO. from the B-box to the new BMT's

and those BIG VRADS should be a thing of the past. the new ones are the low profile either green or tan it just depends on the city.
i have seen two low profile VRADS side by side feeding one SAI. just because the city said no to the big ones.
the newer VRADS can be attached to each other now, you guys should be seeing those soon if not already
