Server Transition
Written by uvadmin
Wednesday, 31 December 2008

In an effort to alleviate the slow page load times we have moved the site to a new server. Hopefully this will take care of any performance problems you have experienced. Most things should be back to normal now. If you find problems that need to be addressed respond to this post and we will work them out. The known issues that we are still working on are:

  • Attempting to add a marker to the map returns an "Error 500 - Internal server error"
  • Attempting to delete a marker from the map returns an "Error 500 - Internal server error"
  • Some navigation links to the map and wiki are broken and return an "Error 500 - Internal server error"

QTR3 2008 results

AT&T added 232,000 U-verse subs this past quarter, bringing the total to 781,000. As long as they add 220,000 next quarter that will get them their goal of 1 Million subs by the end of the year. In terms of subscribers they just passed CableOne, the 9th largest MSO. AT&T has also pass 14M dwellings. They are now achieving greater than 10% penetration rates in less than 12 months.

Not only was not much said about U-verse in this webcast, none of the investors had any questions about U-verse either. I guess this means investors are now quite comfortable with the capabilities of this system.

After launching about 2 years ago, the greater Houston area has surpassed 100,000 U-verse subscribers. It is probably safe to assume that Dallas and San Antonio are probably not to far from this 100,000 mark as well. Total numbers for the Q3 2008 should available soon.

For comparison, Comcast Houston has 750,000 subscribers.

U-verse beats FIOS and everyone else

JD Power completed a customer satisfaction survey that put U-verse on top for television service providers. FIOS came in a close second place. Providers were judged on overall satisfaction, performance and reliability, customer service, cost, billing and offering and promotions. U-Verse got high marks across the board, so apparently there is more to tv service than just the quality and number of streams that are available.

They study also reports that 90% of households have at least 1 HDTV. I know HDTVs have been flying off the shelves, but I find this number hard to believe as I still know quite a few people without a single HDTV.

In 2Q U-verse added 170,000 new subs, which is up from 148,000 in last quarter. This brings the total number of subs to 549,000. U-verse now passes 11 million dwellings in 53 markets. AT&T is still on track to pass 1 million subs by end of year, but to do that they need to average 200k installs for the final two quarters.

2HD roll out will completed by the end of the 3Q.
Total Home DVR in trials and will have full roll out end of year.
